Hi Richard,=20
=20
This sounds like a permissions problem. Please be aware that we do have
this environment in the lab, and have been trying to reproduce various
customer issues on OSX. It is on the escalations teams radar, and I have
been communicating the results to Escalation, L3 and Apple. I sent a
trace over to Apple yesterday and am waiting a response.
=20
So far, the status is unable to reproduce in Campbell,=20
=20
Everon 3.1.1.3 and MAC-OS 10.5.4
Everon 3..2.0.7 and MAC-OS 10.5.4
Everon 3.3 and MAC-OS 10.5.4
Everon 4.0 and MAC-OS 10.5.4
=20
If you can make contact with the customer, can you see if the data can
be moved by other means.
Try the right click, "Copy Item" then "Paste Item"
Try scp from the command line

According to the DW, this customer is on 3.2.0.6. In reading the notes,
it sounds like a client permission issue, or the permission of the
folder is causing us problems. Can we get specifics on what the
permission of the folders that do not work?
=20
Can you get a listing of the permissions on
/Volumes/FireFly/Dao/DH-Data/DH Exp200-900/DH-Data602on/DH608-WB (PN_
pCR_ BD Ab)/DH608-Images/ /Volumes/ron/Dao-Yao/DH-Data/DH

/Volumes/ron/Dao-Yao/DH-Data/DH Exp200-900DHK-Dat106on=20
=20
And compare them to a folder that works?
Thanks, Dave

\'m encountering random permission errors on some files when attempting
to copy them up from a OS X (Leopard) machine. The error message
displayed on the Mac is:=20
\"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient
privileges for some of the items.\"=20
So far we\'ve found 2 folders/files that exhibit this symptom. Here are
the paths (source destination) of the files:=20

/Volumes/FireFly/Dao/DH-Data/DH Exp200-900/DH-Data602on/DH608-WB (PN_

=20
/Volumes/Firefly is the local disk and /Volumes/ron is the virtual
server CIFS share on the Pantera.=20
So when you attempt to drag/copy the folder Dao from the root, ie,
/Volumes/FireFly, we get the error and Finder basically quits the
remainder copy.=20
If we create the sub-folders individually and copy the content of the
sub-folder directly to the destination sub-folder, it copies fine, but
we can\'t do that all the time because users tend to copy data folders
lock-stock at a go. And the error will occur if user decides to move the
folder around.=20
I\'ve already created the .com.apple.smb.streams.off file on the root of
the share already. And I\'ve tested it on a test vsr too with the same
outcome.=20
I\'m attaching the contents of the folders in the next message so you
can simulate it at your end.

I may as well put this out to the larger community for comment - perhaps
someone has seen a similar issue or knows of a block size transfer
limitation?

I almost hate asking to escalate this one but I told the Customer I'd
raise the flag. I don't know if his issue can be replicated in the lab
but it seems what they are attempting to do is to drag and drop folders
with large numbers of files, (Jul 28 10:15:51 onstor1 : 1:1:cifs:ERROR:
285: cifsrpcEDuniStruc: 681: unicode string length (251658240) greater
than MAX PDU size(8192)) in them from local storage to the ONStor.
Complete Folder drag and drops fail more often. Single file transfers
seem to work as designed.
=20
His comments: Don't you guys have a Apple with Mac OS X to try that on?
It's reproducible on any Mac here on 2 different vsrs. So I'm wondering
if it's reproducible in a different environment. That's why I attached
the files and gave you the full path. I'm out of the office till Monday
8/4/08, so I can't do a trace and don't want this to wait till I come
back.
=20
My reply: While I can appreciate your position, replicating your
somewhat random errors in our lab would not be time well spent. It would
require replicating what your users do and the numbers of users who do
what they do. It would require replicating your network exactly as it is
and on and on. Unfortunately, the quickest way to determine what the
issue is, is for you or a colleague perhaps to collect some traces for
us so that we can see what is happening on the network between client
and filer at the time you are seeing the issue. Our lab MAC's obviously
work as tested.=20
=20
I will raise the escalate flag as I promised you I would but to get to a
resolution, engineering will require those traces. I will have someone
contact you via email in the morning to discuss this further if you
like.
=20
Thank you,
